Pressure
May 31st, 2009 Posted 9:32 am
There are so many people under the unbearably high pressure in China. Heavy work demands and intense competition pile enormous pressure on the individuals who desperately try to pursue a more well-paid salary and push for a higher position. For students, exam pressure makes them overburdened and overwhelmed. Stress is a personalized phenomenon but confronts everyone at different degrees.
This phenomenon divides people. Some have a depressing and gloomy attitude toward the physical and mental strain. So stress is always blamed for someone’s mental disorder, violence and even suicide. In contrast to their negatively reacting to stress, others may face up to the mounting pressure and keep a excellent mood.
How to properly and effectively cope with the huge pressure? First, people under the tremendous pressure can select a proper way to relax, such as pampering themselves with a long hot bath and immersing themselves in the favorite CD. Repetitive tasks and no break will propel people to pay a hefty health price. Second, the over-high expectations leading to the strong strain must be lowered. Third, a chat with close friends is a favorably good way. Talking to them will alleviate enormous pressure.
The prospect of uncertainties is putting a heavy strain on a growing number of college graduates. A major decision facing these freshmen of the real world is to choose a suitable life path.
Some are bent on furthering their education abroad or going to graduate school, with the aim of acquiring more knowledge or increasing their chances of finding more gainful employment after they return home or graduate. Others decide to plunge themselves into the tight job market. Still others, who are in the minority, intend to set up their own business because they are more ambitious than their peers.
I will say good bye to my college days. Although a couple of options lie ahead of me, I have made up my mind to land a job with one of the big companies in some affluent areas, such as Yangtze Delta, Canton and so on. I was born into an impoverished urban family. My parents are laid-off and have been working feverishly to fund my college education. As a grown-up, I have to shoulder more responsibilities and strive to lighten my parents’ load.

I Need Humor
May 31st, 2009 Posted 8:52 am
A suspicious customer murmured, “I wonder if this milk is fresh.” The quick-witted waiter answered, “Fresh? Three hours ago it was GRASS!”
See? A humorous response may solve your problem.
Someone asked a young artist, “Did you sell any of your paintings at the art show?” “No, but I am encouraged,” he replied. “Somebody stole one.” And years later he became world known.
Humor may sustain us in hard times and bring happiness in everyday life.
Once my neighbor told me that he shaves fifty times a day. Was he crazy? Of course not—he is a barber.
So, my dear friends, remember, we need humor and try to be humorous in your life. Next time, when you are asked, “How can I stop water from coming into my house?” Say, “Don’t pay the water bill.”

Tourism in China
May 31st, 2009 Posted 8:46 am
Recent years have seen a tendency in China that tourism is growing faster. According to a recent survey made by some experts, about 47% urban residents travel regularly, and 28% rural residents also make their tour across the country. The survey also shows that more people are interested in tourism, and will join the army in the future.
Facing this tendency, we can’t help exploring some underlying factors that are responsible. In the very first place, with the policy of reform and opening up, Chinese people’s living standard has been greatly improved, and therefore, most of them can afford to travel around. What’s more, it is believed that people now take a more positive attitude to tourism, and regard it as a life style.
In addition, tourism facilities are becoming better and better. For example, transportation develops fast, and many scenic spots are available now.
Though there are still some problems with tourism, I personally believe that tourism should be playing a key role in our life. I also hope that our government will make policies to create a better environment for tourists.

the volunteering spirit
May 30th, 2009 Posted 9:18 am
In recent years, the volunteering spirit has spread among the Chinese people, especially among youngsters. According to a survey, in 2008, there were about 1,700,000 volunteers who offered service for Olympic Games. Actually, an increasing number of people become volunteers every year in China。
Volunteering actions are of tremendous benefits to both those in need and the society. Olympic Games are a good example. As is known to all, volunteers played an active role in Beijing Olympic Games. Without them, it would be a tough task to hold this un-precedent Olympic Games. Therefore, we can say that it was those volunteers who ensured the success of these games。
As modern college students, we should get actively involved in volunteering activities. By participating, we can learn how to work well in a team, how to improve our interpersonal skills and organizational ability. Undoubtedly, all of these are critical for our person growth. So, we should take this chance to learn and to grow.

I meet all one
May 30th, 2009 Posted 9:10 am
This goes out to someone that was
Once the most important person in my life
I didn’t realize it at the time
I can’t forgive myself for the way I treated you so
I don’t really expect you to either
It’s just… I don’t even know
Just listen…
You’re the one that I want, the one that I need
The one that I gotta have just to succeed
When I first saw you, I knew it was real
I’m sorry about the pain I made you feel
That wasn’t me; let me show you the way
I looked for the sun, but it’s raining today
I remember when I first looked into your eyes
It was like God was there, heaven in the skies
I wore a disguise ’cause I didn’t want to get hurt
But I didn’t know I made everything worse
You told me we were crazy in love
But you didn’t care when push came to shove
If you loved me as much as you said you did
Then you wouldn’t have hurt me like I ain’t shit
Now you pushed me away like you never even knew me
I loved you with my heart, really and truly
I guess you forgot about the times that we shared
When I would run my fingers through your hair
Late nights, just holding you in my arms
I don’t know how I could do you so wrong
I really wanna show you I really need to hold you
I really wanna know you like no one could else know you
You’re number one, always in my heart
And now I can’t believe that our love is torn apart
I knew you gonna sit and play this with your new man
And then sit and laugh as you’re holding his hand
The thought of that just shatters my heart
It breaks in my soul and it tears me apart
At times we was off I was scared to show you
Now I wanna hold you until I can’t hold you
Without you, everything seems strange
Your name is forever planted in my brain
Damn it, I’m insane,
Take away the pain
Take away the hurt
Baby, we can make it work
What about when you
Looked into my eyes
Told me you loved me
As you would hugged me
I guess everything you said was a lie
I think about it, it brings tears to my eyes
Now I’m not even a thought in your mind
I can see clearly, my love is not blind
I just wish everything could have turned out differently
I had a special feeling about you
I thought maybe you did too
You would understand, but…
No matter what, you’ll always be in my heart
You’ll always be my baby
Our first day, it seemed so magical
I remember all the time that I had with you
Remember when you first came to my house?
You looked like an angel wearing that blouse
We hit it off, I knew it was real
But now I can’t take all the pain that I feel
Reach in your heart, I know I’m still there
I don’t wanna hear that you no longer care
Remember the times? Remember when we kissed?
I didn’t think you would ever do me like this
I didn’t think you’d wanna see me depressed
I thought you’d be there for me, this I confess
You said you were my best friend, was that a lie?
Now I’m nothing to you, you’re with another guy
I tried, I tried, I tried, and I’m trying
Now on the inside it feels like I’m dying
I need you and
I miss you and
I want you and
I love you ‘cause
I wanna hold you,
I wanna kiss you
You were my everything
And I really miss you
And I do miss you
I just thought we were meant to be
I guess now, we’ll never know
The only thing I want is for you to be happy
Whether it be with me, or without me
I just want you to be happy

Do We Need “Never give up”?
May 30th, 2009 Posted 8:56 am
It’s widely accepted that “Never give up”,a strong and positive life attitude,is the key for individual success on the ground that permanent persistence may boost our confidence, strengthen our will, and provide us a second chance for success when we are in hardship. However, others argue that sensible abandonment is more precious than blind persistence because the wise one should choose the most suitable area for hinself.
In my opinion,we need to learn to give up timely. The most immediate reason is that we should adjust our aim carefully in order to go ahead continously.Sometimes,to give up those unrealistic targets is essential for success.Besides, the attitude “Never give up”exhausts us both mentally and physically.Only through learning to give up can we lead a pleasant and relaxing life. Finally,a tenmorary comprise means a new start,a beginning bringing new hopes, expectations and opportunities for us.
Passive as giving up sounds,it represents a more mature and realistic mentality. If those opposing this attitude can take its benefits into consideration, then this may seem acceptable in our lives.

White Snake
May 28th, 2009 Posted 7:47 am
There is a very famous traditional Chinese story that has a close connection to the Dragon Boat Festival. Once upon a time on E-Mei mountain there lived two snake spirits, White Snake and Green Snake. These snakes, being magical, turned themselves into beautiful maidens and set off on a journey to the West Lake of Hang Zhou.
When they arrived at West Lake they met a man named Xu Xian. White Snake quickly fell in love with Xu Xian and they were soon married. A Buddhist monk, named Fa Hai, warned Xu Xian of his wife’s deceptive appearance and suggested to him a plan.
On the day of the Dragon Boat Festival White Snake wished to stay home so as to avoid the Ay Tsao, used for protection from spirits, hanging on the doors of people’s houses. Her husband prepared, according to Fa Hai’s instruction, some realgar wine, as this was a tradition during the Dragon boat festival. White Snake, thinking her magic would protect her from the effects of the realgar wine accepted a cup. After she drank the wine she became very ill and was barely able to get to her bed.
When her husband came to her side, he found not his wife but a huge white snake. So great was Xu Xian’s shock that he fell to the floor dead.
After recovering from the realgar wine and regaining her human form, White Snake was grief-stricken to find her husband dead. She set off on a journey to obtain a potent medicinal herb, which could revive her husband. After returning and reviving her husband with the medicine, she explained to Xu Xian that the white snake he saw was actually a dragon and that this vision was indeed a very good omen. Xu Xain’s fears were put to rest for the moment by his wife’s fanciful story…

The Modern Dragon Boat Festival
May 28th, 2009 Posted 7:45 am
Starting from that time to this day, people commemorate Qu Yuan through Dragon Boat Races, eating zong zi, and several other activities, on the anniversary of his death: the fifth day of the fifth lunar month.
Dragon Boat races are the most exciting part of the festival, drawing crowds of spectators. Dragon Boats are generally brightly painted and decorated canoes. Ranging anywhere from 40 to 100 feet in length, their heads are shaped like open-mouthed dragons, while the sterns end with a scaly tail. Depending on the length, up to 80 rowers can power the boat. A drummer and flag-catcher stand at the front of the boat. Before a dragon boat enters competition, it must be “brought to life” by painting the eyes in a sacred ceremony. Races can have any number of boats competing, with the winner being the first team to grab a flag at the end of the course. Annual races take place all over China, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and other overseas Chinese communities.
The traditional food for the Dragon Boat Festival, Zong zi is a glutinous rice ball, with a filling, wrapped in corn leaves. The fillings can be egg, beans, dates, fruits, sweet potato, walnuts, mushrooms, meat, or a combination of them. They are generally steamed.
Another aspect of the Double Fifth Day is the timing: at the beginning of summer, when diseases are likely to strike, people also wear talisman to fend off evil spirits. They may hang the picture of Zhong Kui, guardian against evil spirits, on the door of their homes, as well. Adults may drink Xiong Huang Wine, and children carry fragrant silk pouches, all of which can prevent evil. It is said that if you can balance a raw egg on its end at exactly noon on Double Fifth Day, the rest of the year will be lucky.
